In mid-July, our VP of Marketing, Ray Bonachea, visited New Orleans to attend BarCamp NOLA. This is his report.
As part of our continued support for the BarCamp Tour 2012, Batchbook, along with our friends from Grasshooper, MailChimp, and WuFoo, headed down to New Orleans for some tech, biz, food and fun! BarCamp NOLA was held over the weekend of July 14th and 15th, 2012. For those not familiar with these events, BarCamps are free tech and start-up “un-conferences,” where sessions are organized on the fly by attendees, for attendees.
BarCamp NOLA was well attended, as there were about 300+ attendees throughout the weekend. Check out the event Twitter page for pics.
The BarCamp Tour sponsored an after party
This BarCamp also included a hack-a-thon as the focus for the second day of the event. The project was to create a website to tell the stories of success and inspiration from the New Orleans tech scene.
I am happy to report that the Big Easy has a growing and passionate tech and start-up community with its own industry blog the Silicon Bayou News. There has been a revitalization of the tech and start-up community in this town. Some of which came from students and entrepreneurs that came to help rebuild after Katrina then fell in love with the city and stayed. Some good as a result of the bad.
While all of the attendees were enjoying the BarCamp, there was an army of organizers that volunteered to produce the event. Thank you to all the organizers and sponsors for putting on a great event. Thanks New Orleans!
