This is the first in a series of blog posts celebrating National Small Business Week by naming those Batchbook customers who we feel have attained Superhero status because of the unflinching work they do to make the small business universe a better place.
Our Superhero today is a long time Batchbook customer, but that is not why we think he is so great. Alex Webster, the “President for Life” of Coast New Zealand and his wife Nicola win the Superhero award for unwaveringly pursuing their lifestyle passions and creating a thriving business along the way.
They came up with the idea for their small business while honeymooning on Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf, near Auckland, New Zealand. After moving to New Zealand from Hong Kong, they dreamed of creating a premium New Zealand brand based on uncompromising design. Both being sailing enthusiasts, they had spent their fair share of time on uncomfortable boating seating and knew there was a better way. Thus, their original product, the Marine Bean, was born and is now featured on world class racing yachts around the globe.
They have grown their business to include additional sets of outdoor furniture, and a retail store for showcasing outdoor furniture, and a website and numerous social sites to inspire the outdoor dreamer in all of us.
Now-a-days, they aren’t just selling furniture for boats, but have also found that the same furniture works well on land, indoors and out. The high-quality and wayfaring design aesthetic evokes the beauty and clean lines of the ocean, as well as the laid back lifestyle people often associate with it. We know that we get a little wanderlust every time we visit their website!
